A little piece of ocean
got stuck inside a shell.
It will let you hear its secrets
if you promise not to tell

A List of Things
goldfinches
messages that never sent
people that never truly understand each other
cheap plastic salt and pepper shakers
movies you saw but cannot remember
brown paper bags
the little green tabs that keep Starbucks drinks from spilling
breadcrumbs
pennies
slippers
Things forgotton, floating around in your purse, then found and remembered
Things remembered, unfound
unrecognizable substances spilled on the ground
tree branches
toenail clippers
lost time found in inconvenient places
hair
the soles of shoes
words
rust

Pictures
I rather like the way we say "take a picture," as if you were stealing a piece of a moment and keeping it for yourself.

~a challange~ (appreciating awkwardness)
I have always been one to obsessively avoid awkward moments and situations. I will be sure to know exactly where to go and what to do whenever I embark on a new experience (things like riding a train by myself for the first time- which I haven't actually done yet). I also sometimes feel the need to say pointless things merely to avoid that awkward silence around people who you don't know well enough to sit in silence with yet.
However. I have decided to challenge myself on this point.
I have decided to consciously appreciate awkwardness.
Awkwardness is beautiful in its own way. It is so, undeniably human.
Everyone in the world experiences awkwardness.. it is a fact of life, and like any undeniable fact of life it deserves some notice and appreciation.

Everyone in the world experiences awkwardness.. it is a fact of life, and like any undeniable fact of life it deserves some notice and appreciation.
Since my decision to appreciate awkwardness I have had a handful of lovely or important conversations which began with (or were brought about by) an awkward silence or introduction.
So awkwardness, as much as we hate it, can actually bring about good things, and even when it doesn't, it deserves to be appreciated because it is so undeniably human.

Music Recommendations (for those who appreciate brilliant odd things)
This is what I am listening to. The album cover is a pretty good illustration of the realm of reality which this music occupies.
